02/08/2011, Russia - "Russia to scrap daylight saving time this autumn", RIA Novosti

Russia will stick to summer time and not switch to daylight saving time (correct should be "Russia will stick to summer time and not switch to WINTER TIME" - Alexander Krivenyshev, ) on the last Sunday of October as it has done since 1981, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Tuesday.

"I decided to cancel the shift to winter time, starting from this autumn," he said.

Medvedev said that the shift in time "may lead to stress and illnesses."

Daylight saving time is practiced in every European country except Iceland, as well as in many other countries around the world to save energy. The first recorded time change in Russia was in 1917.
